An adaptation of a best-selling novel, this film tells the true story of Hanum and her husband, Rangga who is undertaking graduate studies in Austria. Together, the couple embark on a three year journey across Europe.

Merantau is an Indonesian martial arts film released on August 6, 2009, directed and written by Gareth Evans and starring Iko Uwais. It introduces a style of Pencak Silat known as silek harimau (Minang tiger silat) and a Minangkabau tradition know as Merantau. Evans and Uwais collaborated again for the Indonesian action film The Raid: Redemption (2011) and its sequel (2014). Merantau won the Jury Award for Best Film at the 2010 ActionFest.
