Cybersecurity was a major advocacy theme for the Council in Vietnam in 2018. It will remain a key focus this year as Vietnam's Ministry of Public Security and associated agencies continue to adjust existing draft regulations, develop new cybersecurity circulars, and formulate a new data privacy decree.
The Government of Vietnam (GOV) is actively seeking comments and technical assistance on both the draft cybersecurity decree and a new draft data privacy decree. To provide the means for industry to provide this input, and to build on the momentum of our engagement with the GOV last year, the Council is organizing a half-day workshop on cybersecurity and data privacy regulations on the morning of Tuesday, March 12, the first day of our annual Business Mission to Vietnam. The workshop will give members the opportunity to engage with key government officials working on the draft cybersecurity decree, which has been delayed to incorporate industry recommendations after a re-examination of several key aspects of the decree (data localization, critical information systems).
