Gillers is the Chief of the Political\, Economic\, and Consular Section at the Embassy of the United States of America to Timor-Leste.  Prior to arriving in Dili\, Ms. Gillers worked in the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs and oversaw programs to improve criminal justice capacity in countries throughout Southeast Asia.  She was also the Bureau's lead on the issue of wildlife trafficking in the Asia-Pacific region.  In her career before government service\, Ms. Gillers implemented international projects for a variety of non-governmental organizations\, including Freedom House\, the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative\, and the Public International Law & Policy Group.  Ms. Gillers taught English to middle and high school students as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Romania.  She holds a Master's degree in International Development from American University and a Bachelor's degree in Romance Literatures and Government from Wesleyan University.
